The Art is Present

About The Art is Present

The Art is Present is an art game about the perception of art games.

The player takes control of an artwork that must adjust its form to avoid being understood by visitors.

The game progresses in difficulty as the antagonists (people attempting to understand the artwork) gain in adherence to stereotypical art-world norms.

The game, which features elements of meta narrative, explores existing discourse on games-as-art, perceptions of new media art, perceptions of perceptions of new media art, the myriad purposes of art and, most poignantly, the divisions in definitions of art, and to whom this applies.

It was originally made and exhibited at the Pippin Barr Gamejam.
