ME 2.0 is an interactive, artificially intelligent facsimile of the artist that visitors are invited to converse with.
ME2.0 is trained on tens of thousands of communications that the artist has had over the past 12 years, via Facebook, Twitter, email and personal messaging services.
The piece explores what it means to be human over digitally-mediated communication technologies, the accuracy of internet companies' understanding of (and their ability to recreate) their human clients, and to what extent can humans outsource parts of themselves to new tools.
The piece, created in 2018, pre-dated the large-language model AI popularisation (re: the launch of ChatGPT) in late 2022.
The piece was live from 2018 to October 2023.
Me 2.0 was created using machine learning, which uses tensorflow seq2seq to iteratively train the artificial intelligence. It uses Facebook's chatbot interface and is hosted on Heroku.
